This is a collection of poems about Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry. DuBose Heyward was a Charleston native best known for his novel Porgy
, which was the basis for the Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess
. Hervey Allen, who later wrote Anthony Adverse
